Watch dragon boats fly at pandora rings price the Canada Dry Victoria Dragon Boat Festival, a three day racing regatta that runs Friday to Sunday.
Proceeds from the event, in its 22nd year, come from team registration fees and related initiatives, including the Lights of Courage Campaign and the Paddlers' Pledge Program.
The event is free to watch and up to 80,000 spectators are expected.
The teams, made up of either mixed gender or all women teams, compete in various events. There are four challenge races: Great Grand Dragon, made up of team members ages 59 or better; Breast Cancer Survivors, with survivors from both genders; Open Challenge; and Corporate Challenge, in which at least half the paddlers are from the same place of employment.
While locals make up half the field, the world class festival also attracts some of the most competitive paddlers in the Pacific Northwest, with hopefuls travelling from Vancouver, Harrison Hot Springs, Prince George, Seattle, Portland and beyond.
All the teams will race in identical 20 person Millennium dragon boats, designed and built on the Saanich Peninsula. Friday at Ship Point, where Taoist priests paint the eye on a dragon boat, signifying the awakening of the sleeping spirit of the dragon and the beginning of the competition. Saturday on the causeway, is an opportunity to honour those who have been affected by cancer. Fundraising comes in the form of sales of $2 paper lanterns.
Entertainment includes the Furusato Dancers, Salsa Caliente, Taiko Drummers and the Minko Band. On Saturday night, team members put away their oars and take up air guitars at the Paddlers' Air Band Competition, complete with elaborate costumes and over the top dance routines. Saturday on the main stage. Cancer Foundation, based at Royal Jubilee Hospital. Proceeds support research and the purchase of equipment and machinery for the early detection and treatment of cancer. Flock to Coombs for annual fair
This year, the venerated Coombs Fair will be celebrating its 103rd anniversary with all things sheep. See ewe at the fair, Saturday and Sunday.
The two day Coombs Fair has been celebrating local agriculture and community since 1913, with pandora bracelet buy displays of livestock, garden produce, arts and crafts, photography, needlework and domestic science.

Admission is $5 a day or about pandora bracelets $8 for a two day pass for adults; $3/$5 for students 13 to 18 and seniors 65 and older; $1 for children six to 12; and free for children five and under. Parking is $2 at the fairgrounds or free at Coombs Rodeo Grounds, with free shuttle service. The fairground is at 1014 Ford Rd., Coombs.
Passage to India at Centennial Square mela
Watch enthusiastic multicultural dancers, eat authentic Indian cuisine and savour the culture at India Mela, a celebration of Indian heritage, Friday to Sunday.
This is the seventh year of what organizers bill as a passage through the Indian sub continent, in Centennial Square.
Mela is a Sanskrit word for gathering. The India Mela, which starts Friday, is a three day celebration and an opportunity for Victoria's South Asian community to share the richness of Indian culture with their neighbours.
The festival is organized by the Victoria chapter of the India Canada Cultural Association. Local and visiting dancers will perform traditional Indian and Bollywood routines.
